Farm-to-Cup Storytelling: From Maricao’s Mountains to Your Mug
Every 787 Coffee bag begins in Hacienda Iluminada, our farm found in the highest mountains of Maricao, Puerto Rico. The environment here is the foundation of our signature flavor: fertile volcanic soil packed with nutrients, a constant flow of moisture, and our temperature swings from hot days to cool nights making the coffee cherries ripen slowly, which concentrates their natural sugars and makes the beans taste richer.
Our honey process, Is a magical method where the coffee cherries are carefully de-pulped but dried with their natural sugars intact. This process is not only water-conscious, but it also enhances the sweetness, body, and flavor complexity of the final cup. Then, our coffee beans are roasted to a perfect medium roast, this roast preserves the origin’s delicate notes and taste of the personality from the land that it’s grown. The result is a beautifully balanced coffee that will teleport your taste buds to Puerto Rico.

A Beginner's Guide to Becoming a Home Barista
Starting your home coffee journey can feel intimidating, but with the right guidance, it's a rewarding skill to master. Your delicious journey begins with these 8 simple steps, made easy with the exceptional quality of 787 Coffee's fresh coffee beans.
Step 1: Invest in a Great Grinder The kind of grinder you use is crucial. A burr grinder is a barista's best friend because it crushes coffee beans into a uniform size, ensuring an even extraction and a cleaner flavor.
Step 2: Choose Quality, Fresh Coffee Beans . Don't waste your time with stale, pre-ground coffee. By choosing a bag of 787 Coffee beans, you’re starting with a fresh, single-origin coffee that is freshly roasted and shipped directly from our farm to your door.
Step 3: Master Grind Size Once you have your grinder, it's time to learn the language of grind size. This is extremely important knowledge to understand, because every brewing method is different and requires a particular grind size.
Coarse grind (like sea salt) is best for French Press.
Medium grind (like sand) works for drip coffee makers.
Fine grind (like powder) is used for espresso and Turkish coffee. The correct grind size is the key to a balanced cup.
Step 4: Understand Different Brewing Methods There's a world of brewing methods to explore. A pour-over like a V60 will produce a clean, bright cup. A French press creates a rich, full-bodied, and intense flavor. And a drip is perfect for a consistent coffee to get your day going. Every brewing method requires different techniques and knowledge to create the perfect coffee.
Step 5: Master Your Water Ratios Consistency is key to a great coffee. Water ratios is a very important concept to understand. Use a digital scale to measure your coffee and water if accessible.
Step 6: Choose the Right Equipment After selecting your brewing method, choose your tools. A simple setup for a beginner could include a digital scale, a gooseneck kettle for precise pouring, and a quality brewing device like a V60.
Step 7: Master Your Brewing Technique Each technique has its own small details that make a big difference in the final taste.
The Pour-Over (V60) This a hand crafted black coffee where the method is all about control. Hot water is poured over coffee grounds that are in a filter. Gravity then pulls the water through the grounds, and it drips into a cup or carafe below. you will need a digital scale to weigh grams of coffee and time for each pour.
The French Press is an immersion-based brewing method. It starts by adding your coarse-ground coffee to the carafe, then pouring a small amount of hot water over the grounds to allow them to "bloom" and release gas. Next, you add the remaining hot water, gently stir to ensure full immersion, and let the coffee steep for about four minutes. Finally, you slowly press the plunger down to separate the grounds from the coffee, and pour your brew immediately to prevent it from becoming over-extracted and bitter.
The Espresso is a concentrated shot of coffee created with precision and high pressure. The process begins with coffee beans that are ground very finely and then packed tightly, or "tamped," into a small filter basket called a portafilter. An espresso machine then forces a small amount of hot water through this tightly-packed "puck" of coffee at very high pressure. This rapid extraction process gives a small, intense shot of concentrated coffee, recognized by its rich flavor and a golden-brown foam layer on top called crema, which serves as the foundation for countless classic drinks like lattes and cappuccinos.
Step 8: Store Your Beans Properly Keep your beans in an airtight container away from direct sunlight, heat, and moisture. This will help maintain peak freshness and ensure you enjoy a café-quality coffee with every use. You’ll find that every step is a rewarding part of the process.
