787 Coffee at SCA Houston 2025: Caffeinate, Connect, Impact
Let’s Connect on Social
The Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) Expo in Houston 2025 marked a historic milestone for 787 Coffee, as we showcased our first-ever booth at the event. It wasn’t just a booth; it was a celebration of who we are—Puerto Rican coffee with a proud heritage and a clear and strong future. We were there to share our passion, learn from others, and most importantly, connect with our fellow coffee humans from all over the world.
The journey to the SCA Expo was nothing short of inspiring. 12 incredible humans representing 787 Coffee came together from different corners of the world, from Puerto Rico to New York, Texas, and beyond, to make this moment a reality. Our booth wasn’t just about selling coffee; it was about telling our story, learning from the best in the industry, and truly making an impact.
Here's a rundown of the 11 key things we learned at the SCA Houston Expo that will forever shape our journey forward.
1. The Power of Coffee as a Connector
At SCA Houston, we learned that coffee truly connects humans. Whether it was sharing cups with fellow coffee enthusiasts or hearing from passionate coffee producers, the event showed us how coffee transcends borders and brings diverse cultures together. It reinforced the importance of community in everything we do at 787 Coffee. We were so excited to be the only one or one of the only booths that had a complete vertical integration. At our booth we had our coffee farmers, baristas, leaders, marketers, Q graders, Q processors and other Puerto Rican coffee farms that we invited. MAGIC!
2. It’s About the Experience, Not Just the Coffee
We learned that coffee isn’t just about what’s in the cup—it’s about the experience. From the moment we set up our booth, we focused on creating a space where visitors could experience Puerto Rican coffee in a way that felt authentic. Humans connected with our story, our heritage, and our journey. We are farmers, we are a Puerto Rican coffee company.
3. Learning From the Best in the Industry
At SCA Houston, we tried coffees from all over the world, heard expert lectures, and soaked in as much knowledge as we could. We realized that there’s always something new to learn in the coffee world, and every encounter—whether it’s tasting new coffees or listening to industry leaders—is a chance to grow. We currently carry three originins, Puerto Rico, Mexico and Colombia, we are currently working on a few blends and on finiding specialty Panama Geisha.
4. Representation Matters
Representing Puerto Rico and our origins was a huge takeaway from the event. We learned how important it is to stand proudly for what you believe in and where you come from. Puerto Rican coffee has a rich history, and we were there to showcase its incredible legacy. Our booth wasn’t just about selling coffee; it was about showing the world the unique flavors and culture of Puerto Rico.
5. Collaboration Leads to Innovation
We learned that the best ideas come from collaboration. Whether it was working alongside farmers, roasters, or equipment partners, we saw firsthand how working together with like-minded people sparks innovation. The relationships we built at SCA will play a huge role in shaping the future of 787 Coffee.
6. Embracing New Ideas
One of the biggest lessons we took from the expo was the importance of embracing new ideas. Whether it was a new brewing technique, a new way to tell our story, or a new piece of equipment, we were constantly challenged to think outside the box. This openness to change will continue to guide us as we evolve.
7. The Importance of Branding and Design
We were incredibly proud to have our coffee bag nominated for one of the best coffee bag designs at the event. This experience taught us how crucial it is to pay attention to every detail, from the design of our packaging to the way we represent ourselves in the marketplace. The way we present our products is as important as the coffee inside the bag. Our coffee bag is beautiful. Our coffee bar embraces simplicity and elegance.
8. Caffeinate to Connect
We learned that coffee brings people together in the most meaningful way. Whether it was engaging in conversations with fellow baristas, meeting coffee professionals from around the world, or just sharing a cup of coffee with a friend, we were reminded that coffee is not just a product—it’s a universal language of connection.
9. Adaptability is Key
The event presented a lot of new experiences, and we learned that adaptability is essential. Our team had to be flexible with our booth setup, our schedule, and our interactions. From troubleshooting equipment to adjusting on the fly, the ability to adapt quickly ensured our success at the event.
10. It’s About the Humans Behind the Coffee
At SCA Houston, we learned that the true power of coffee lies in the people behind it. Whether it’s the farmer, the barista, or the roaster, it’s the humans who make the coffee come to life. We were reminded that everything we do at 787 Coffee is about connecting with and empowering the people who bring our coffee to life.
11. Celebrating Small Wins Along the Way
Lastly, we learned the importance of celebrating small wins. Whether it was a successful day at the booth, a new connection made, or simply representing Puerto Rican coffee at such a prestigious event, we realized that each small success is a step toward something bigger. Our team left SCA Houston with not just a nomination for the best coffee bag design but with a renewed sense of purpose and passion for the future.
