What is the story of Hacienda Iluminada?
Hacienda Iluminada is our beautiful coffee farm in Maricao, Puerto Rico. When we first found Hacienda Iluminada, it was abandoned and its coffee trees were dying. It was time to get some work done and save those coffee trees so they could flourish again and see their beautiful coffee cherries grow. The coffee trees quickly began to flourish once again months later when our farmers gave them the necessary attention.
Unfortunately, after Hurricane Maria hit, things became a little hard and we lost an important part of our coffee trees! BUT, of course, we have the best farmers, that helped us get back on track and make our amazing farm come back to life. Hacienda Iluminada can be described as a place of resilience. That shows us that when we have hope and put in the hard work, amazing things can happen even when life gets too hard!
What is Hacienda Iluminada NOW & what you should expect?
At 787 Coffee, we love to invite our caffeinated humans to visit the farm whenever they have the opportunity to go to Puerto Rico or if they are in the area because it's an amazing experience where you can learn, connect, and relax.
We provide coffee tours at Hacienda Illuminada, every Saturday our doors are open for every human!
Coffee tours take place every Saturday at 11:00 am and they last two hours. During these two hours, you will connect, explore, and learn about our coffee. You might think two hours may seem like a long time to learn about coffee, but you will experience much more than just coffee. You will get to see animals that want to play with you and trees that you may not have ever seen before! Most importantly, our coffee, how long it takes to bloom, how we select the coffee cherries, who toasts the coffee, and why it matters to be sustainable!
We hand-pick our coffee, did you know that? We don't have any kind of machinery. This is to, first, protect the environment and, second, to experience the true flavor of our coffee. Coffee can lose its delicious flavor if it is not taken care of correctly
In the next three years, we want to convert our coffee plantation to 100% agroforestry. This is the reason we practice sustainable actions in our coffee shops and on the farm so we can contribute to the planet.
It's important that we look after our world in different sustainable ways to continue enjoying the beautiful things nature gives to us, including Maricao’s coffee. The coffee that our humans take with them to different parts of the world, Mexico, Austria, Venezuela, and even Germany!

STAY A WHILE!
YOU have a little more time to stay! There are currently cabins available at Hacienda Iluminada where you may stay and unwind!
Our four lovely cabins, each with a modern design and surrounded by nature, offer the best of both the urban and rural. It feels like camping but with elegant surroundings and the soothing sounds of the natural world all around you.
Imagine waking up to the sound of birds, looking out, and seeing the beautiful landscape of Maricao, you change and take a cup of FRESH coffee, an espresso that will wake you up to have a new adventure with nature. All of a sudden the world stops and you breathe in nature while you watch the birds flying. You might even realize that moments like these are what counts in life and that life isn't all that stressful!
