More Than Just Coffee: A Puerto Rican Story of Resilience
Before 787 Coffee was born, we were a coffee farm with a promise. We opened Hacienda Iluminada in 2014 with a singular mission: to empower our community in Maricao, Puerto Rico. We spent years nurturing our coffee plants and our people, growing the best coffee in the island.
Our story, like that of many Puerto Ricans, was tested in 2017. Hurricane Maria devastated the island and wiped out 97% of our coffee trees, nearly putting us out of business, but just like the resilient humans of Puerto Rico, we refused to let circumstances define us. The hurricane couldn't steal our spirit. With the help of the dedicated hardworking hands of our farmers and the unwavering support of our community, we rebuilt Hacienda Iluminada, stronger and it became a symbol of hope to our team in Maricao.
This incredible journey brought a lifeline to 787 Coffee, allowing us to share our freshly roasted, Single Origin Puerto Rican Coffee with thousands of caffeinated humans. Every single cup of coffee you drink is a taste of our resilience and a part of our story.

From Maricao to New York City
Our journey to New York City is a very unique make shIT happen story in the Big Apple. We took a leap of faith, opening a tiny coffee shop on East 7th Street in 2016 to share the rich legacy of Maricao's specialty coffee. After going through the university of Hurricane Maria we faced a new challenge, the COVID-19 pandemic. We were once again tested, but our commitment to our community and farmers drove us to expand, even further acquiring and reopening shops that had closed, making it the biggest opportunity for 787 Coffee. This growth cemented our mantra that even in the toughest times, we will push ourselves and the people around us to greatness, and make shIT HAPPEN!
Today, we are proud to have 18 locations in New York City, and it is all because of YOU the caffeinated humans of 787 Coffee that has helped us through the most challenging periods in business, no words can express the gratitude we have thank you, thank you, THANK YOU. Just like the diverse spirit of our beautiful city NuevaYol, we've expanded our offerings to include single origin coffee from our partners in Mexico and Colombia. This allows us to share the rich coffee cultures of Latin America with YOU. All the while empowering rural farmers and expanding core mantra of Farm to Cup experience establishing quality, sustainability, and direct relationships with our farmers.

From Puerto Rico to the Sun City: A Story of Latino Community
When we decided to open our first location in El Paso, Texas, many wondered what makes this border city was so special to us. We chose the Sun City because, despite being thousands of miles away from Puerto Rico, it shares the same core values: love, community, and unity. El Paso is its own unique movement of Latino culture, and our vision has always been to empower and uplift our communities everywhere through specialty coffee.
Our first El Paso location, opened in 2023, and ever since its opening has made a HUGE impact to the city stretching from the East to the West side. The best coffee is a shared experience, a taste of home. Our Mazapán Latte is inspired by the beloved Mexican peanut candy, a treat that holds countless memories of quinceañeras, holidays, and family visits across the border. It's one of our signature "Wow" lattes, and a tribute to the community's rich heritage and a way for many to find a piece of home right here in El Paso.
Our mission is at the heart of our co-founders' story. Sam Sepulveda, from Puerto Rico, and Brandon Peña, from El Paso, have blended their love for single origin coffee and their respective cultures into something beautiful. Together, they are harmonizing Latino communities, showing that through collaboration and love, we can impact the world.

We are absolutely thrilled that our newest location in Westfield, New Jersey, is officially part of the 787 Coffee family! From the moment we opened our doors, we have been welcomed with open arms by this incredible community. The warmth and kindness of the caffeinated humans of New Jersey here have truly made us feel part of a new and exciting chapter. It's because of this amazing reception we are filled with immense gratitude. Every smile, greeting and WoW latte we serve is an honor to deliver the best coffee to Westfield.
What makes this community so special is its beautiful spirit and genuine love for connection. We've seen neighbors catch up, friends share a laugh, and families create new memories over our specialty coffee.
