How to Brew Your Coffee With a Moka Pot

What is a Moka Pot?

This famous coffee maker has been popular since 1993! The moka pot was invented by Luigi De Ponti. The moka pot works with hot water in the bottom of the pot and vapor that puts pressure into the coffee grounds. The water mixes with the coffee grounds, coming up to the top of the moka pot. This brewing method produces a coffee that is in between espresso and drip coffee because of its strong flavor like in an espresso but not too strong like a drip coffee.

So if you are a person that likes espresso and loves its morning Drip coffee then this is the perfect technique for you, since you have the best of both!

How to Your Moka Pot Like a Professional?

Using a moka pot can be confusing at the beginning but once you give it a try and start experimenting with it then you’ll be a professional with a delicious cup of coffee. Let’s start with the grinding of your fresh coffee beans. You should grind your beans a little bit finer than drip coffee but coarser than espresso. So there is a balance that will let you extract the coffee beans flavor without clogging the Moka pot’s filter.

Let’s move to your water! The type of water you use is important since can make your coffee taste different from the water you use. Use filtered water or spring water to avoid any unwanted flavors and ensure a clean, crisp cup.

Brewing Steps

1. Fill the bottom of your Moka pot with hot water (not too much so it doesn’t overflow)

2. Add your favorite coffee to the small basket with freshly ground coffee. Make sure it is leveled!

3. Screw the top and bottom of your moka pot together tightly

4. Place your Moka pot on your stove and set it to medium heat (not too hot, then the coffee will splash everywhere)

5. As the water heats up, the steam will push the coffee through the upper part of the moka pot.

6. Remove the Moka pot from the heat and pour your freshly brewed coffee into your favorite cup.

Maricao, Puerto Rico, at 3,000 feet above sea

level in the island's central mountain range.

Handpicked at peak ripeness. Honey processed

on the farm. Roasted fresh in small batches.

Shipped directly to your door.

TASTING NOTES:

Buttery caramel — from the honey processing

method that leaves natural sweetness in every

bean. Dark chocolate — from the high-altitude

growing conditions that slow the cherry's

development and concentrate flavor. Bright

citrus finish — clean, clear, and completely

unforgettable.

THE HONEY PROCESS DIFFERENCE:

Most coffee is washed. Some is natural

processed. 787 Coffee's Supremo Roast is

honey processed — a labor-intensive method

where the outer skin of the cherry is removed

but the sweet mucilage layer is left on the

bean as it sun-dries at Hacienda Iluminada.

The sugars absorb into the bean. The sweetness

becomes part of the coffee itself. You taste

it in every cup.
